CALCUL-Méca and CONCEPTION-Méca collaborated on this project to construct a mesh aluminium structure for the ACTe Memorial in Guadeloupe.

The ACTe Memorial or “Caribbean Centre on the Expression and Memory of Slavery and the Slave Trade, is a memorial located in the harbour of Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, on the site of a former Darboussier sugar factory.

The mesh of the ACTe memorial, covering around 8,000 M2, is laid across a double-curved surface, offset from the ground at varying heights, and has an irregular distribution. The technical difficulty involved in this project was making this architectural structure both fabricable and also resistant to particularly severe environmental constraints (sea front, cyclonic and a highly seismic zone).

CONCEPTION-Méca has proposed technical solutions to streamline and optimise the construction of the mesh, while still maintaining the irregular appearance of the grid. Guide drawings have been produced for on-site installation.

CALCUL-Méca was involved in choosing design elements to withstand the strong climatic constraints. A numerical analysis methodology specifically adapted to the random arrangement of the slabs was developed and put into use.
