Méca's involvement in the project:

Méca has been a partner of the Solidsail project since its conceptual phases. Since the beginning of 2016, Méca has been called upon to work on the initial studies of a tilting and orientation system for a very large balestron mast, but also on the initial studies relating to the kinematics for hoisting and lifting lowering of a mainsail formed of rigid panels. It was then a question of proposing concepts, of orienting towards possible technological solutions, of providing an order of magnitude of dimensions in order to allow the estimation of an implementation budget.

In 2019, the Silenseas adventure continues with the production of a 1/5th scale model of a carbon mast with its orientation mechanism. This functional model, installed on the sea wall of the port of Pornichet, has enabled Chantiers de l'Atlantique to refine maneuvering techniques, secure concepts, and progress in mastering the performance of the SolidSail.

Since 2020, Méca has been supporting Chantiers de l’Atlantique and its various partners for the design and sizing of the composite masts which will soon receive the rigid sails at the final scale.
